ON THIS NIGHT : BIG HEAD TODD AND THE MONSTERS
Another very successful Colorado band, Big Head Todd and the Monsters formed in the mid 1980’s after meeting at Columbine High School in Littleton. They recorded two early albums then went on to release their biggest album Sister Sweetly in 1993. The song “Bittersweet” went on to be a huge hit at the time I photographed the band at both the Fox Theatre as well as the Boulder Theater.

An original DIY band
Guitarist/vocalist Todd Park Mohr was a very talented guitar player for sure, a bluesman. They have since added a keyboard player but were a three piece with Brian Nevin on drums and Rob Squires on bass in the early days. Back then I remember the bands management hired me to shoot live shots at the Boulder Theater for future use on an upcoming live album that was in the works. In the beginning, Big Head Todd and The Monsters were truly an original DIY band.

A Colorado favorite
A Colorado favorite to this very day, Big Head Todd and the Monsters headline regularly at Red Rocks during the summer months. With humble beginnings playing local fern bar JJ McCabe’s and the college hotspot Tulagi on the Hill in Boulder, the band soon built a very large following locally, then eventually their growing popularity would see them touring nationally. A great example of a Boulder band for sure.
