A word from the photographer

One of my favorite bands as a teenager in the seventies, I finally got the opportunity to photograph UFO. Guitarist Michael Schenker had gone solo, but I would eventually photograph him as well. This was the first album and tour with new guitarist Paul Chapman. All remaining members were from the classic era of the band, which was great, including vocalist Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way, drummer Andy Parker and Paul Raymond on keyboards. This show was on the “No Place to Run” tour in 1980 at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey.

The songs

“No Place to Run” was a very underrated album in my opinion, the band rocked songs “Letting Go”, “Gone in the Night” and “Anyday”, a personal favorite. They rocked all the older classic UFO tracks as well with guitarist Paul Chapman handling Michael Schenker solo’s with relative ease. I was very impressed how he fit in with the band, founding member and vocalist Phil Mogg’s singing was in top form also, an amazing singer with a unique voice. Founding members Pete Way and Andy Parker, veterans of the rhythm section, were amazing to watch too.

The final tour

UFO are currently on their final tour as many bands from this era are doing as well. They have recorded 22 studio albums and sold over 20 million records in their long career of 50 years as a rock band. Although not the classic line-up of the band, I was very happy to get these images from 1980.
