Gran Slam concert pictures

`Gran Slam` were an American rock band. They are captured & photographed here in analog from the stage & pit area during a 1982 America concert.

A word from the photographer

Another band consisting of former musicians from a multitude of other Boulder bands, Gran Slam was started by former Gretchen Peters Band alum Steven “Forrest” Sanders, who also was a founding member of 60’s Akron, Ohio band The Lime with his brother’s Russ and Larry Sanders. Bassist Ron Aguiar and Drummer Billy Hoke also there from the beginning, with guitarist Chip McCarthy, formerly of the band Pearl, later rounding out the band.

Both Chip McCarthy and “Forrest” Sanders and I had become very good friends back in the early 80’s as we all worked at the same “day” job, a company called Belting Industries out at 55th. and Central Ave. in east Boulder. There were many lunches had at the nearby Hungry Farmer Restaurant, some that I admit I cannot remember. Small world once again as I spent many evenings in the early 70’s at the Farmer watching the band Propinquity who was family friend Mel Stonebraker’s band, coincidently he later got me that job at Belting Industries.

These images were shot at the Boulder Theater, where the band ran thru a set consisting of contemporary cover tunes, mainly songs you would see and hear on MTV and KBCO radio at the time. Chip McCarthy would go on to be a long-time member of the Legendary 4Nikator’s, Ron Aguiar would become a member as well. Billy Hoke has a drum shop in Boulder. Steven “Forrest” Sanders would eventually go on to start a very successful Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young tribute band called Ohio. We all keep in touch to this day.
