ON THIS NIGHT : DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES (D.R.I.)
One of the original crossover thrash bands, D.R.I. was founded in Texas by vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy in 1982. I was assigned to photograph the band for a metal magazine called LIVEWIRE, I also was tasked with writing my first published article accompanied by my images. They were currently on tour supporting their album 4 of a Kind on this night in 1988.
“F#*K of a time with 4 of a Kind”
Ten years or so into my music photography career, I was doing a lot of work for different magazines as well as remaining freelance. Securing “photo” or “press” credentials was starting to become a dreaded necessity, as was very apparent on this night as I was stranded outside the venue while my credentials were being confirmed. Finally issued a pass, I shot my images, left for home and wrote my first published article, titled “F#*K of a time with 4 of a Kind”, nothing against the band, just against promoters.
