ON THIS NIGHT : HENRY PAUL BAND
This was the solo band of Henry Paul, founding member of the Outlaws. He left the Outlaws after recording one of my favorite albums in southern rock, Hurry Sundown. I photographed them twice on the Feel the Heat tour in 1980, the second of four solo albums, the first being Grey Ghost from 1979. Just like the Outlaws, this was a full-on southern rock band. Both shows were photographed at the Palladium Theater in New York City only four months apart.

Both shows were shorter opening band sets primarily consisting of rockers like “Whiskey Talkin’”, “Feel the Heat” and the classic track “Grey Ghost” dedicated to the memory of past southern rock musicians long since gone. Guitarist Billy Crain was incredible both nights and became one of my favorite southern style guitar slingers, an amazing attack in his playing. Later, Billy Crain would rejoin Henry Paul in one of the last versions of the Outlaws. Henry Paul would become well known as the leader of country band Blackhawk as well.
