ON THIS NIGHT : CHARLIE DANIELS BAND
A legend in the southern rock, and even country music genres, Charlie Daniels had a huge hit one year prior to this night with “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, which won a Grammy. I photographed him on the subsequent Full Moon tour in 1980 at the Palladium in New York City. The album Full Moon also had a couple of big radio hits, “In America” and “The Legend of Wooley Swamp”. This was a cold December night in New York City, but the southern rock vibes certainly warmed up the venue.
Grand Ole Opry
Charlie Daniels is a very talented multi-instrumentalist along with a top-notch band behind him, notably guitarist Tommy Crain who has since passed away in 2011. I got some decent images using both flash and non-flash shooting techniques, the lighting not being as good as you would hope for. I’m glad to be able to include here a member of the Grand Ole Opry at the very least, I believe the only one who I have photographed.
