The six time Grammy winner and world’s finest double bassist Christian McBride opened The Backstage Live Jazz festival in Pula in style. The American Jazz virtuoso has recorded over 300 albums with leading world musicians of various genres. He has also recorded 14 albums on his own.
The Christian McBride’s Big Band in Pula
The 17 piece Christian McBride’s Big Band played a variety of lively and upbeat Jazz tunes. They also played several tracks from their latest award winning album “Bringin ‘It”. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album.

The band
Throughout the performance the musicians played some fantastic solo sets and there was a great mix of Latin, funk , old school swing and at times bluesy jazz.

The venues
In May and June the Istrian National Theater (INK) with its excellent acoustics is used. In July and August the festival then ventures outside and to the amazing setting and backdrop of Pula`s 2,000 year old amphitheatre.

The Backstage Live festival brings together eight concerts to the Croatian city of Pula. The festival spans from May until December and takes place at two of the cities most exciting and musical and iconic venues.
