A word from the photographer
After just releasing their new album titled ‘Eternal Return’, Windhand has begun a tour across North America bringing their ultra-rich and dark sound to doom metal fans. Supported by fellow Virginia natives “Satan’s Satyrs”, who they also recently released a split album with, as well as local Houston doom metal band Doomstress. They shook the walls of the upstairs stage at White Oak Music Hall with their heavy distortion and droning sound.
In the beginning
Windhand was one of my first introductions to doom metal, specifically the song “Orchard” from the Soma album. After hearing the extreme amount of distortion along with the slower grinding tempo of their songs, I remember putting the song on replay and listening to it for several runs back to back.
The heavy sound
Despite some initial issues with Dorthia’s microphone, they sounded just as good live as they do on their albums. ” Eternal Return” advances their heavy sound with bassist Parker Chandler and guitarist Garrett Morris working extremely well together both on the album and live. Watching and listening to them perform live really showed me how much of a cohesive unit this band really is and I look forward to seeing them again soon
