A word from the photographer
ON THIS NIGHT : BOBBY & THE MIDNITES
This band was a side project of Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead photographed here at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey on November 1, 1980. This band was brand new having played their very first show only 4 months earlier, now featuring bassist Tim Bogert of Vanilla Fudge and Beck, Bogart and Appice fame, also guitarist Bobby Cochran who had played in Steppenwolf & was also the nephew of the famous Eddie Cochran. The music was rock n’ roll with some jazz-rock fusion thrown in considering the musicians level of skill.

A powerful drummer
The band also featured fellow Grateful Dead member Brent Mydland on keyboards who shared vocals with Bob Weir throughout the show. Also featured, possibly one of the best drummers ever, Billy Cobham who had played with Miles Davis and the Mahavishnu Orchestra as well. Talk about a powerful drummer, I was in awe of his playing style and was happy to be capturing images of him. I left this show amazed at how different it was in comparison to the music the Grateful Dead played, I also got to see some music legends for sure.
