Obituary are known as the godfathers of the Death Metal genre. Founding members John Tardy on vocals and Trevor Peres on guitar, both seen here when I photographed them on their World Demise tour in early 1994 at the Ogden Theater in Denver, Colorado.

The evolutionary process in metal music is very interesting, Obituary’s music 30 years ago, was considered some of the heaviest out there. Today’s younger metal bands are more extreme than ever, part ideology and part modern production technology maybe? Then again ask anyone the definition of HEAVY and you will get different answers for sure.
